About Engaged Bees
A Local Beekeeping Journey Rooted in Stewardship and Education
Engaged Bees is a Cincinnati-based beekeeping operation focused on responsible stewardship, education, and producing exceptional local honey.
Engaged Bees was founded in 2018 by Scott Gage after he noticed a growing lack of bees in his own backyard. What began as curiosity quickly turned into a passion for beekeeping and a commitment to supporting healthy pollinator populations.
With guidance from mentors at Gorman Heritage Farm, Scottโs journey grew from a single hive to dozens, each one carefully managed and thriving. Watching a colony work together โ each bee playing a vital role โ is like witnessing a symphony in motion.
Engaged Bees is dedicated to the preservation, growth, and education surrounding honeybees and their critical role in our food system. Along the way, Scottโs loyal mascot, Cosmo Kramer, is never far from the action.
We believe beekeeping is about more than honey โ itโs about stewardship, learning, and sharing an appreciation for these remarkable pollinators. Join us as we continue this journey and invite others to discover where it may lead.
Healthy pollinators are essential to a resilient food system. Everything we do โ from hive management to small-batch extraction โ is guided by respect for the bees and the role they play in our local environment.
Our mission is to care for healthy honeybee colonies, produce exceptional local honey, and educate our community about the essential role pollinators play in a resilient food system.

Hands-On Beekeeping
Engaged Bees is built on direct, hands-on beekeeping. Our hives are managed locally with a focus on colony health, seasonal awareness, and responsible stewardship.
Time spent in the hive allows us to respond to changing conditions, understand our bees more deeply, and care for them in a way that supports both the colony and the surrounding environment.
Rooted in Local Beekeeping
Our bees forage from diverse nectar sources throughout the Cincinnati region, producing seasonal honey with unique flavor profiles that reflect the local landscape.
We harvest honey in small batches to preserve its natural character. Because honey production depends on weather, forage, and colony health, availability varies throughout the year โ just as nature intended.
More Than Just Honey
No Bees - No Food - No Us
Engaged Bees exists not only to produce local honey, but to help people better understand where food comes from and why pollinators matter.
In addition to honey production, we are committed to:
- Educating our community about bees and pollination
- Supporting local agriculture and food systems
- Encouraging sustainable practices that benefit both bees and people
Youโll often find us at farmers markets, local events, and educational programs โ sharing our passion for beekeeping and answering questions about honey, hives, and pollinators.
Small-Batch, Seasonal, and Transparent
We believe good food should be honest.
That means real honey, produced locally, with care.
If you ever have questions about our honey, our bees, or how we do what we do, weโre always happy to talk โ beekeeping is as much about community as it is about bees.
