Host a Hive with Engaged Bees
We are currently looking for new hive host locations in the greater Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky area.
Engaged Bees partners with homeowners, gardens, schools, and landowners to place and manage honey bee colonies in suitable outdoor locations. We provide the bees, equipment, and ongoing care — hosts provide a safe place for the hive.
Hosting a hive is a great way to support pollinators, improve local pollination, and connect directly to local honey production.
What Hosting a Hive Means
When you host a hive, Engaged Bees handles:
- Providing bees and complete hive equipment
- Regular inspections and seasonal management
- Swarm prevention and disease management
- Supplemental feeding when needed
- Adding/removing equipment to match the season
You are not responsible for managing the bees — our beekeepers take care of the hive.
What Makes a Good Hive Location?
Ideal locations usually have:
- A quiet outdoor area with low daily foot traffic
- A mostly flat spot with room for the hive and beekeeper access
- At least half a day of sun
- Reasonable distance from homes, walkways, and neighbors
Before placing any hive, we evaluate the site to ensure it’s safe and appropriate for both people and bees.
Safety & Considerations
Honey bees are generally gentle and focused on foraging. However, if anyone in your household has a known allergy to bee stings, hosting may not be appropriate.
We’ll also discuss neighbor proximity and site access before moving forward.
